Take a look also at Savage Harvest, another lion epic, shot in Brazil. Yours truly was the Key Grip.

Monty says -- Half of the adventure of ROAR was just surviving it. You were better off not being on it than actually being there. Our mutual friend lasted three days when he was confronted with a giant tiger, decided he'd best find work elsewhere. As for myself, I got split from my navel up across my forehead by a young teenage lion who just wanted to play. But we were able to complete the dolly move before things got any worse.

Yikes -- I didn't know Monty got clawed! But he finished the dolly move -- what a stud!

As you know Michael, I was the sound mixer on set on Roar for 3 years including the 1 Month in Africa. I'm in the Doc as well. Yes all the stories are true and I have enough exciting tales to tell in my retirement to last 2 lifetimes. We are approaching the 50 year anniversary of the start of Production on Roar and not too many of us are left to tell the story. I was contacted earlier this month by a British producer who was in town trying to get a more humane documentary on the film's production made for one of the major streaming services. We'll see if it happens.

P.S. The genny operator was a Guy we called "Killer Joe" who was just paroled after getting out of the nearby Prison after doing time for murder. So you were replaced by a guy who also knew nothing about running the generator, but nobody dared criticize him for it. One day we saw black smoke pouring up from behind the hill as the lights flickered out. Yes, the Generator was on fire.

Ha! That’s great — hey, you’re the one who turned me on that documentary. I hope the new one gets made!

Hey Courtney, how are you doing?

Hey Jeff, Good to hear from you. Are you still toiling away pushing those dollies and setting those flags. I guess we have a common friend in Mike Taylor. I'm still above ground and fully retired. Stay well.

All is well and still have my foot in the door. I am technically retired, but if I get a day call, pushing that heavy dolly around on a sitcom and it checks all the boxes, I’ll take it.

I’m amazed there are still dollies on sitcoms … the last few shows I did were all peds.

“Only an asshole would take that job.”

Best advice EVAR.

I didn’t work on it either and I remember I was asked. I did a few commercials out there at the compound and it was always crazy seeing all those big cats.
